Website and marketing support for trades in Ontario

Ontario has the most competitive trades search results in Canada, so outages and errors cost more here. Support means fast fixes, accurate licensing references and current rebate details.

Written by Ali Sedighi, MBALast updated:

Ontario has the largest and most crowded trades markets in Canada. When a homeowner in Toronto, Ottawa or Mississauga searches for a plumber, electrician or roofer, they see a long list of options, so a slow page, a broken button or a lapsed domain sends them to a competitor in seconds. Website support in Ontario is about speed of repair, accuracy of licensing claims and keeping rebate pages current, because Ontario programs feature heavily in heating, electrical and renovation marketing.

The Ontario market

The Greater Toronto Area, including Mississauga, Brampton, Markham and Vaughan, is the densest trades market in the country. Ottawa, Hamilton and London are large markets of their own, and Northern Ontario has smaller, more spread-out communities.

In the GTA, search competition is intense and ad costs high. Support matters most where marketing spend is highest: every day a landing page is broken, budget is wasted. In smaller cities and the North, an accurate Google Business Profile and fast mobile pages often decide who gets the call.

Seasons and timing

Southern Ontario has cold winters moderated near the Great Lakes, and Northern Ontario has longer, colder heating seasons.

  • Heating and plumbing: keep sites stable from the first cold weeks of fall; do updates in late spring and summer.
  • Air conditioning and heat pumps: summer heat brings its own rush, so schedule updates for spring and fall shoulders.
  • Roofing, landscaping, decks and exterior work: spring is the crunch. Use winter for website projects.

Many Ontario trades businesses offer both heating and cooling, which leaves short quiet windows. A maintenance plan helps by doing small, regular updates rather than big risky ones.

Licensing references to keep accurate

Ontario's regulators shape what trades can advertise, so licensing references on your site need care. We don't give compliance advice; we keep the details current and linked.

  • TSSA registers fuels contractors, and only registered contractors using certified gas technicians may do fuels-related work.
  • ESA issues electrical contractor licences, and in Ontario advertising electrical work for others is reserved for licence holders.
  • The HCRA licenses new-home builders and vendors.
  • WSIB covers workplace insurance.

If your site shows an ESA licence number or TSSA registration, make sure it's current. An outdated number can undermine trust when a customer checks.

Programs your site might mention

As of October 2026, two Save on Energy programs appear on many Ontario trades sites.

  • The Home Renovation Savings Program, run by Save on Energy and Enbridge Gas with provincial support, lists rebates such as up to $7,500 for a cold-climate air source heat pump and up to $12,000 for ground source, plus bundled upgrades after a home energy assessment.
  • The Energy Affordability Program offers free upgrades for income-eligible households, including an oil-to-heat-pump stream described as available for a limited time; we couldn't confirm its end date.

Ontario had no federal CGHAP agreement as of October 22, 2026. Any page claiming one should be corrected. Programs change, so always link the administrator and tell customers to confirm.

Statistics Canada found that 58% of Ontario households heated mainly with natural gas and 18% with electricity in 2023, so content about gas equipment, heat pumps and rebates is common, and commonly out of date.

How we'd support an Ontario trades business

  1. Ownership audit of domain, hosting, Google listing and ads; see our audit guide.
  2. Licensing check: confirm displayed TSSA, ESA or HCRA details are current and linked.
  3. Rebate sweep: date and link every Save on Energy or Enbridge reference; remove anything that no longer applies.
  4. Paid-search path test: ad, landing page, phone number and tracking.
  5. Regular maintenance in small steps around your seasons.

For broken sites, urgent help follows our triage order. Ontario clients are three hours ahead of our Mon–Fri 9–6 Pacific hours, so morning texts reach us at the start of our day. Contact us to start.

Frequently asked questions

Does ESA licensing affect what my electrical website can say?

It can. ESA states that only licensed electrical contractors may bid on or advertise electrical work for others in Ontario. If your site advertises electrical services, keep your licence details accurate and check ESA's guidance on what to display.

My site mentions Home Renovation Savings rebates. What should I watch for?

Program amounts and eligible equipment can change. As of October 2026 the program lists rebates of up to $7,500 for a cold-climate air source heat pump. Link Save on Energy's page, add a 'last checked' date and avoid promising specific amounts to any one household.

Why does downtime cost more in Ontario?

Because searchers have many alternatives. In the GTA, Ottawa or Hamilton, a customer who hits an error page simply taps the next result, and may never come back.
