Alberta trades businesses work in two large, competitive metros, Calgary and Edmonton, plus regional centres and fast-growing commuter towns. The heating season is long and cold, and the outdoor building season is short, which concentrates demand into a few intense weeks. Website support in Alberta is about protecting those weeks and keeping what your site says about codes, licences and financing accurate.
The Alberta market
Calgary and Edmonton dominate. Around them, Airdrie, St. Albert and Strathcona County (Sherwood Park) behave like separate markets in how people search, and Red Deer and Lethbridge serve wide regions. Wood Buffalo (Fort McMurray) has its own economy and patterns.
In the two big cities, search results are competitive and paid search is expensive for common trades. A broken landing page or a lapsed domain wastes ad spend quickly. In regional centres, fewer companies compete, and an accurate Google Business Profile with the right service area does more than a large website.
Seasons and timing
Alberta winters are long and cold. In the south, chinook winds can turn a frozen week mild almost overnight, which produces bursts of roofing, ice-damage and exterior calls in mid-winter.
What that means for support:
- Heating, plumbing and electrical trades: do updates and larger changes from late spring through summer, and keep the site stable from the first cold snap.
- Roofing, landscaping, fencing and concrete: the build season is short and crowded. Use late fall and winter for website projects.
- Everyone: chinook-driven call spikes can arrive without warning, so a site that's always maintained beats one that's patched in a rush.
Codes and licensing references
Your site may mention permits, certification or licensing. We don't advise on any of them, but we keep the references accurate and linked.
- Alberta's safety codes system covers building, plumbing, gas, electrical and other disciplines, with permits issued by accredited municipalities or the provincial authority.
- Compulsory certification trades require a journeyperson certificate or registered apprenticeship.
- Under the Consumer Protection Act, some businesses need a prepaid contractor licence if they take payment before work is done and sell away from their usual place of business.
- WCB-Alberta covers workplace insurance.
If your site makes claims about deposits, certification or permits, we'll make sure the wording matches what you confirm with the right body.
Programs your site might mention
As of October 2026, no province-wide Alberta home heating rebate appeared on official sources we checked. Two things often show up on Alberta trades sites:
- The Clean Energy Improvement Program lets homeowners repay energy upgrades through their property tax bill, yet it exists only where a municipality has opted in. A site that presents it as available everywhere in Alberta is misleading customers.
- The federal Oil to Heat Pump Affordability grant closed to Alberta applicants on July 31, 2026. Any page still promoting it should be updated.
For context, Statistics Canada reported that in 2023, 76% of Alberta households heated mainly with natural gas, so gas furnace and boiler content is common on Alberta sites and needs the same care.
Website problems we see often in Alberta
- Province-wide claims for local programs. Pages that suggest CEIP financing is available everywhere, when only some municipalities take part.
- Old federal grant pages. Oil-to-heat-pump content written in 2024 or 2025 and never retired.
- Service areas drawn too wide. A Calgary company listing Edmonton suburbs it rarely visits, which brings calls it can't take.
How we'd support an Alberta trades business
- Audit ownership of your domain, hosting, Google listing and ads.
- Sweep program and financing claims, including CEIP and the closed federal grant, and add dates and official links.
- Check service areas: Calgary and Edmonton suburbs should match where you really go.
- Test the paid-search path: ad, landing page, phone number, call tracking.
- Set the maintenance calendar around your trade's peak.
From there, maintenance plans and marketing upkeep run monthly, with urgent help when something breaks. We work Mon–Fri 9–6 Pacific, which is an hour behind Alberta. Contact us to start.
Frequently asked questions
Can I advertise CEIP financing on my Alberta website?
You can mention it if you serve a participating municipality and keep the wording accurate. The Clean Energy Improvement Program is offered only where a municipality has signed up, so name the municipalities and link the CEIP site rather than implying it's province-wide.
Does the prepaid contractor licence affect what my website says?
It may affect how you sell, particularly door to door or at home shows, and therefore what your site and ads promise about deposits. That's a question for Alberta's consumer protection office; we'll make sure the site reflects whatever you're told.
When should Alberta trades schedule website work?
Outside your peak. For heating trades, that's late spring and summer. For roofing, landscaping and concrete, it's late fall and winter.
